Choral synagogue
In Drohobych you have an opportunity to see the architectural monument of local significance, one of the largest synagogues in Ukraine. At its time, it was the largest synagogue in Europe. Later it became the largest in the gap between Warsaw and Kiev. Its construction coincides with the beginning of the oil industry’s prosperity in our region. The construction began in 1842. Construction lasted until 1865. In Soviet times, the synagogue was transformed into a warehouse of  salt. Some time later, a furniture store is located here. In the early nineties the synagogue was returned to a local Jewish community. For many years the synagogue had been  rotting and overgrowing with trees, and the roof had failed. In 2008, the first stage of restoration was carried out . In 2014, full-scale work on restoring the synagogue was launched.
